Renovation work at the historic Buck Jackson Arena continues to gain momentum as Reeves County moves forward with significant improvements designed to modernize the
facility while preserving its long-standing legacy as the home of the World’s First Rodeo.
Construction on the press box and concession areas has reached several key milestones. Framing is now complete, electrical conduit has been installed with wiring underway, and plumbing rough-ins are finished. Exterior lap siding is approximately 95 percent complete, with only the corridor area remaining. These upgrades are transforming the space into a functional and modern hub for event operations and spectators.
Progress is also steady at the clinic and medic area, where essential infrastructure work has been completed. Damp proofing on the exterior CMU walls is finished, PVC roofing has been fully installed, and electrical and plumbing rough-ins are complete. Exterior framing is currently underway in preparation for lap siding installation, ensuring the space will be durable, safe, and ready to serve the needs of rodeo participants and guests.
Attention is now shifting toward the grandstands, where upcoming work is already underway. The Southern Bleacher crew has returned to the site and has begun flooring work for the grandstand areas, marking the next major phase of the renovation.
Looking ahead, the project forecast includes installation of grandstand seating and railings, completion of all building penetrations, roofing flashing, sheetrock installation, and ceiling tile installation. These elements will bring the project closer to a finished, polished appearance.
As construction progresses, the project is also entering its final design and finish phase. Upcoming selections will include tile, carpet, and countertops for the press box, interior wall paint, exterior siding paint, and toilet partition colors. Final materials will be chosen from physical samples on site to ensure quality and consistency throughout the facility. The improvements reflect Reeves County’s commitment to investing in community infrastructure while honoring the arena’s historic significance. Once complete, the renovations will enhance functionality, safety, and the overall experience for visitors, ensuring Buck Jackson Arena remains a premier venue for generations to come.
