Where It All Began, & Where the Future Rides On
In 1883, long before bright lights and big stages defined the sport, cowboys gathered in Reeves County to test their grit, skill, and courage, marking what history recognizes as the world’s first rodeo. Nearly a century and a half later, that same legendary ground is writing a bold new chapter.
As renovations breathe fresh life into the historic arena, Reeves County proudly welcomes the Pecos College Rodeo, officially named by Sul Ross State University. For the first time ever, collegiate rodeo athletes will thunder into the number one arena where it all began, blending deep-rooted tradition with the future of the sport.
This landmark event will bring together elite cowboys and cowgirls from across the nation and around the globe, all competing at the highest college level. From lightning-fast roping to powerful rides and precision horsemanship, fans can expect world-class talent in a setting unmatched anywhere else.
This isn’t just a rodeo, it’s history in motion. It’s the past, present, and future of Western heritage meeting under one Texas sky.
Join us in Reeves County for an unforgettable celebration of legacy, competition, and community. The dust will rise again where it first settled in 1883—and you won’t want to miss it.
